Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]
In the novel, Cheng Yuanzhi, along with Deng Mao, led a force of 50,000 rebels against Han imperial forces to take over the Youzhou district. The force was opposed by the 500 volunteers led by Zou Jing. Liu Bei taunted the Yellow Turbans, spurring Cheng Yuanzhi to send Deng Mao into battle. Zhang Fei quickly stuck the warrior down in one blow. Cheng Yuanzhi, furious, rode out to do battle with Zhang Fei. Guan Yu, however, met him mid-way and felled him in one stroke, which made Cheng Yuanzhi the first victim to Guan Yu's Blue Dragon. The Yellow Turban army, leaderless, fled the field.
Cheng Yuanzhi is a fictional character in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. He was a Yellow Turban rebel general. Cheng, along with Deng Mao, led a force of 50,000 rebels against imperial forces. His army met with opposition from just 500 volunteers led by Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Liu taunted the rebels, so Cheng sent Deng to fight Liu's men. Liu sent Zhang Fei to engage Deng and Zhang slew his opponent easily. The furious Cheng rode forth to fight Zhang but encountered Guan Yu and was killed by Guan in a single blow. Cheng's rebel army disintegrated after its two leaders were slain.
